Most team activities fail in the same way. They are performances. Someone has to be enthusiastic in front of colleagues, and the people who hate that are the ones the exercise was supposedly for.
Making something works differently, for a reason that has nothing to do with leather.
Why a craft session lands
Nobody has to talk. Hands are busy, which means conversation happens sideways instead of on demand. People who do not speak up in meetings speak up here, because they are not being watched.
The hierarchy goes flat. The head of the department is as new to a stitching awl as the person who joined last month. That is not a metaphor anybody has to point out. It just happens, and everyone notices.
There is an object at the end. Not a photo, not a certificate. A thing that goes on their desk, and every time they look at it they remember the afternoon.
Nobody is eliminated. No teams, no winner, no losing round to sit out.
What the session looks like
Up to four hours, at the studio or at your venue. Everything is provided.
The shape is the same as our beginner session, described in what happens in a beginner workshop: choose the leather, cut, punch, hand-stitch, finish the edges, stamp initials. Everyone leaves with the piece they made.
For a group we usually add one thing: a shared element. The same year, the same project name or the same job stamped into every piece alongside the individual initials. It costs nothing extra and it is what makes it read as a team object rather than twelve separate craft projects.
What to tell us when you ask
- Group size. Anything from a small team to a full department.
- Studio or on site. We travel. Hotels, offices, private rooms.
- How long you have. A half day is comfortable. Shorter is possible with a simpler piece.
- What else is happening that day. Whether this is the whole event or one hour inside a longer agenda changes how we set up.
We do not put a cap on group size in a quote. Tell us the number and the window and we plan the setup around it.
Where this fits in an agenda
It works best after the content, not before. People do not settle into it with a presentation still ahead of them.
It also works as the alternative to a dinner. A meal seats people next to whoever they already know. A bench does not.
